Hey all.
I recently moved to Des Moines IA. I used to work at a huge liquor store and never had any issue getting high end rums.
Since I've moved, I learned two things about Des Moines. You can ship Rum in here (definite plus!) and they don't (as far as I can tell) have any real liquor stores.
The thing I would like some help with is this:
1) Do you know of a good site to order rum from? I'm looking for a good price point, and wide selection. Currently I am looking for Myers Legend, but I want a site I can stick with for many things.
2) How can I find a real liquor store here? Everything is sold in the grocery stores, and I can't seem to find anyone with any premium rums other than the occasional Pyrat XO.
Please help.

I have not been very impressed with Myers Legend, especially for that price range.

Shoppers Vineyard has a great selection. I've made several purchases from their site.
BevMo is a site you should visit as well. Unfortunately, they don't ship to my state

Awesome sites. I have been looking at Shoppers vineyard for a while. Completely forgot about BevMo.
Any ideas on finding a brick-and-mortar store?

HA! Yeah... I don't think my wife would be too happy with me if I brought home a bottle of the 25 yr.
Even on sale it would make take a pretty decent chunk out of my wallet!

I have to say one thing about this state and area...... The fine state that we live in used to carry Ron Zacapa but no longer does.... i have been on a search for something that compares.
But by the way ....welcome to the area

I picked up a bottle of the El Dorado 21 yesterday. I'm not sure that I like it as well as the 15 and the 12.

I just grabbed a bottle of the 12 yesterday, and plan to do a 3-way comparison one of these days.
But I would not spend the extra dough on the 21 after tasting the 15. No way.

The exchange rate wont help you though (ouch!)

Yeah, I talked to one of the spirits managers at HyVee. He said that every place in IA has to buy from the state (meaning much lower selection).
That explains why everyone has the exact same selection.
I know that they just got the "go ahead" for Zaya, so I'll be looking for that soon. But for most things, it looks like it's all going to be shipping for me.
Anyone found a place that has Myers Legend yet?

Yeah, I can find a couple liquor stores, the problem is finding one that has a wider selection than the grocery stores do.

A lot drier isn't it?
I prefer the drier aspect. It is also more delicate, not as ample across the palate.
