View Full Version : Barbancourt 1 Star from Haiti

I found a couple of 375ml bottles of Barbancourt 1 Star on my recent trip to the Dominican Republic. I actually found them in a cigar shop in our hotel in Santiago.
Has anybody seen these before and if so what should I be expecting when I open one? They have the old style label so are not recent bottlings.

This looks interesting. I wonder :confused:if it was made at some point for local consumption. I wll be interested to hear what your thoughts are when you taste it, and if it compares to the others in some way.

I also notice from the picture of the label that it is only 38% abv, if I read it right.

Yes 38% is correct. 37.5% is the norm in the DR so maybe this was originally for the Haitian market. Small bottles are popular on Hispaniola as a whole. Will open one soon to see what's inside.

Nice find, if ofr the collectors value even if the taste is not.
I walked into a new liquor store near my home.
The owner is quite a great disply person. Everything as far as fixtures and displays have a clever edge.
He had a glass display case with rare and/or VERY expensive spirits.
Right in the center is what lokks like a very old bottle (intact !) of Ron Matusalen Grand Reserve. He has a sign next to it- "Pre-Castro Cuban Rum"
Plain cork on top. The label bears a lot of similarity to the present version.
He saw me drooling, and said "sorry, not for sale".
Guess i should look for this on Scotte's site.

Follow-up to my own post.
Got to learn to spell check myself- MatusaleM.
And It's Peters page for labels, sorry Scotte.
Anyway i did check his labels but can't tell. I looked at old pictires on matusalems own site, still can't tell.
Probably because the bottle on display had the neck exposed with just a cork, and a paper seal.
Nothing on the site looked like that.
