I found another online source that will ship to the rum barren state of DE. They have a nice selection of unique rums and one of the ones I was thinking of trying was the Carlisle Reef 5 yr rum...anyone know anything about this one. A search on the internet turned up very little. Where is it from and how does it taste. Thanks!

Carlisle Reef is a rum from Barbados, I'm not sure if the distiller is R L Seale or the West Indies Rum Refinery. I've seen their white and gold but didn't notice a 5 year old. I haven't had the opportunity to sample this private label yet so I can't comment on the quality of the product though the label looks nice.
Carlisle Bay is an open bay on the southwest side of Barbados which is loosely protected by Carlisle Reef. It was in this bay that much of the West Indies fleet of the Royal Navy was sunk in a hurricane which led to Admiral Nelson building what is now called Nelson's Dockyard in Antigua, a much more protected anchorage.

This rum is fairly high on my list of personal favorites. I have consumed several bottles, actually this one finds it self returning to my liquor pantry (which only contains rum) as many times as any. I am not an experienced taster but I know what I like. I would say some toffee and vanilla tones with some spice. It is smooth. Enjoy.

My wife got several bottles of rum for Christmas, including this one. This is her current favorite.
I think that she chooses as much or more by bottle design as by taste. When I asked her what she liked about the rum, she said that it has a classy bottle.
Aroma and flavor indicate once used Bourbon casks and unsweetened vanilla bean, very little caramel added. Light oaky linger. Well done but nothing unusual or outstanding.

A man who has a wife who receives rum for Christmas and then shares it with him is indeed a lucky man.
Sorry to revive an old thread from the dead, but I just got a bottle of Carlisle Reef today and was pleasantly surprised. This rum just took the solid second in my favorite rums list (Zaya, Carlisle Reef, and Cruzan SBE). Other favorites of mine include Pampero Anniversario, English Harbor, Brugal Extra Viejo and Ron Barcelo.
I was pleased with how smooth Carlisle Reef was without any bite at the end, and not nearly as sweet as Zaya. Sometimes, I want a smooth sipping rum that's not quite as sweet; Carlisle Reef will nicely fit the bill.

It's a solid rum from Barbados. Mixes well with Ginger Beer, and is especially good in Coconut water or juice. We polished a bottle off at the 4th of July pool party. Bought at a close out, at a great value.
My best friend Steve came over last night and tried it; he loved it. It's now on the "You have to make sure this is stocked in your bar" list my friends make for me.
Fortunately, I agree with them on this choice. cheers.gif
