I picked up a bottle of Ypioca 160 com Malte. In small print it says "aguardente com malte".

I can't say that I have ever tasted anything like it! Does anyone know more about this?

I've had Ypioca several times, but not Ypioca 160

From what I understand, it's a limited edition cachaca commemorating the company's 160 years in distillation. From what I read on the Brazilian websites (yeah, I read Portuguese), it's aged in oak barrels for six years and the intent is to mimic a fine aged whiskey. That probably explains the addition of malt.

I didn't think this spirit was sold in the U.S.
It sounds really bizarre and I can't imagine what it could taste like.
I think you have a rare, stylized spirit on your hands

BTW, the literal translation of "aguardente" is burning water

The DOOD (and family) were able to taste this with me this evening. This fine spirit is in a category of its own. The first impression it brings to my mind is of the little malt shop across the street from my jr. high school. They made super malted milk shakes! Here it is again as a connoisseur rum.

I'd like to thank Daniel for indulging my brother, father, and I for a few hours yesterday. It was incredibly educational and a ton of fun.

The Ypioca was unique. There's no other word for it. And, for once, I honestly believe I've tasted a spirit that would be FANTASTIC on pancakes and waffles. :)

I could think of a thousand ways to drink it...and now all I need is to find a bottle somewhere.

Thanks again Dan.
