So the work is going to have to begin in earnest to build a mobile Ministry of Rum site. I'm currently thinking about something 240px wide that would scroll down.

As the search function is one of the most used features of this site I thought I'd start with that and eventually, as in no time soon, make the mobile site user configurable so that users could allow or disallow things like the Royal Navy toast of the day, suggested cocktail on reload and a few other things like the upcoming event list on the front page, but that would require users to be logged in in order for their preferences to be acknowledged and I'm not sure how phones hold cookies. There is a lot to learn.

So I need some more feedback, please take a minute to take the poll on what features/pages would be important to you.

And of course I didn't include everything so feel free to give me more feedback below.

Thanks for giving us the chance for some input on the features of the mobile site. In my haste to vote, I left out the choice "Notes from the almanac that appear on the front page". Please add one vote to that choice, if possible. :)

I launched the β mobile today. This isn't optimized for any particular mobile device and will need a lot of improvement but hey, it's β. Maybe I should call it α.

Over the coming week I expect to add some more links on this β site.

There are a few things that need to be addressed, actually quite a few, but there are only about 25 hours in my day. Thanks for your patience and support while I work to make this site even more useful for you.

I don't have a mobile log in at the moment so you won't be able to add favorites etc, but I hope to address that and a few more things as time permits.

Thanks for all the work on the site Ed. I have an iPhone and the entire site displays pretty well for me so it's not a major concern but I did cast my vote for what features I'm likely to use the most when mobile.

Good luck fella. I haven'y anything revolutionary to add, except allowing regional distributors to add their details so a user may be able to search for suppliers in their area.

Difficult to manage though. Best of luck

I was able to make some big progress today and now have a search for Label Name, Producers and Countries.

I've only included bottle shots on the rum detail pages, would you like to see more graphics from the producer and country pages?

And I could add the maps that appear on the producer and country pages with a bit more code on the mobile page.

I'm also planning on adding a link menu to the bottom of the page.

Just tried a few searches on my blackberry. Seems to work well. Should be very useful while browsing liquor stores.
