Hello fellow rum drinkers , i was lurking in the backgroup for months now , and decided to start posting , since its now official! I'm rum addict ( with moderation of course !)

Gone are the days of mixing with run of the mill Bacardi or Capt'n Morgan ( no offence intended to tho who love this :) ) but i have discovered alot of new rums , and now own a few myself , and with samples ans tasting , I know more of what i like in a rum , and look forward expanding this beautiful passion !

Of my humble taste tests , i have so far sampled :

Appleton V/X , was quickly replaced by the far superior Appleton Extra or 12 Years old.

And for now it is my staple choice of Rum

On my next taste session , I own a bottle of Flor de Cana 12 years old , Havana Club Barrel Proof , and just came in , Brugal Siglo de Oro ( THX a ton to my friend for bringing this back from Punta Cana )

I can't wait! , My next purchace will have to be a Santa Teresa 1796 , but they are kinda of expensive here ( 50-65$ ) So ill see :)

PS: Im in Montreal , and here in Quebec the only OFFICIAL place to buy Spirits is at the SAQ , and their choices are sevely limited .

Im trying throught my contacts to get a bottle of BARBANCOURT 15 years old , still need to cross my fingers :)

Well nice to meet you all !

Welcome Rhummer - I'm a newbie here too,... and to sipping rums. But I've read-up a bunch on the rum reviews here (and there) by the seasoned veterans before laying down my hard earned cash. Yea, I do like the Pyrat XO considerably, even though there has been an apparent change in the previous formula which was preferred over the new version. It's still an excellent rum in my novice opinion, and I think I'll be hard pressed to find a better one for the $19 I paid for it. But the fore mentioned Vizcaya VXOP is Rum paradise in a bottle ($38). I'm having to consciously ration myself with that one. But the Santa Theresa 1796 you mentioned is on my short list as well. If you get to it before I do, let me know what you think of it.

Happy Rumming

That's a very good selection. Enjoy your Siglo de Oro it is hard to find.

You can't go wrong with ST. You may want to try El Dorado rums as well. Selection is not great at SAQ, but it was even worse a few years ago. A novelty is the Dos Maderas PX 5+5, a great rum addition.

You should be able to find the 15 years in Plattsburgh. The 8 years is widely available in New Hampshire at a very good price.
