I was looking for a review on this rum. It is listed as being from Peru but I found a press release about it being owed and maybe now produced? in Aruba. Does anybody have any input? I was informed by the importer, Velocity International that the 12 yr scored a 92. I guess there is not a distributor in Florida yet and I can't find an internet site that sales it.
Thanks for any help.

I've never heard of it, perhaps one of our members can help with some info.

Tasted in May 2007. Hope this helps your quest
From what I can find online, the Cartavio section of Peru has produced sugar cane and spirits since the late 1800's, and you'll find several rums available with a Cartavio designation.
It appears as if Velocity International and Distillerias Unidas have purchased the naming rights to Ron Cartavio. That may be the source of confusion as well

The rum in question is Ron Cartavio 1929. They have a 3yr, 7yr and 12yr. The 12yr is what I was told got the 92.

You're not the only people who are confused about Cartavio. From what I know, it was distilled in Peru and there may now be a distillery in Aruba where it is being produced? and/or bottled. Velocity Imports hasn't been very clear on this one, but I will sort it out. There is a large product portfolio and you can see more by following this link to Cartavio (http://ministryofrum.com/search.php?q=++cartavio&search=Search+by+Label+Name) or searching for Cartavio on the other pages of this site.
The labels say Produced and Bottled in Aruba. There are also the words Desde 1929, Since 1929. But there hasn't been a Cartavio distillery on Aruba since 1929.

I found out from Velocity that they do not currently distribute it here in Florida but are looking into it. They said the Internet Wines will be carrying the 12YR in a month or so. I'll wait for that I guess. Does anybody have any tasting notes or thoughts on these rums?

I've had the 12 year old and enjoyed it. I can't say it was spectacular, but I will say I was pleased to have a glass of it. It is a rum I would try again.
I've noticed Majestic Liquors is carrying the Cartavio line and imagine it should be accessible for most folks. Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

In a limited comparison tasting I did in April, the Cartavio 1929 Ron Blanco Superior got top stop.
