I really enjoy rums from the DR and have been tempted to order a bottle or two of the Cubaney rum but was wondering if anyone else has tried this one and would be willing to comment on it.

I enjoy DR rums also. I have Brugal and Vizcaya 21, and even Cohiba is not bad. Cubaney is one that I tasted and did not care for. Very syrupy and a little medicinal, and very sweet. The wood dominates the flavor, as does caramel. Not much else. They may use quite a bit of coloring. But once again,
you might taste it and see it from a different perspective. If I remember it runs about $35 plus or minus, and I would have to say it is not a good value at that price.:(

I haven't had any of the $35 Cubaney rums, but have found some of the others at bargain prices which turned out to be pretty good values. I'm still looking for the distillery information so I can add it to the database.

The only place I have seen Cubaney rum for sale was at a Walgreens or an Albertsons liqour store here in Central Florida, and it ran right around 30 to 35.
It might be less in other places, though. The one I tasted, which was this particular one at 30+, did not agree with my palate. I am certain there are others that I am not aware of.

I recently bought the Cubaney 8 year Solera. It is a good rum however it does maintain a little harshness. I had to add two ice cubes to my glass. Once I did that, Wow! Great rum! Not as good as the Brugal Anejo, but still a nice addition to my collection. It only cost $25 in NJ, I might pick up the 12 year next.

Also from the same source are Opthimus and the wonderful new Ron Atlantico.

We like the Cubaney 12 which mates well with coconut water, but have yet to try any of the others.

Robert Burr has mentioned the quality of the 15 year old and we'd welcome a chance to try the 21 year old. Wasn't there also an 18 year old?

Would you please describe or contrast the various Cubaney and Opthimus rums JC when you have a chance? Thanks for the informative posts from the DR. glass.gif

No, I did not know that they come from the same source. That is interesting, since the flavor profiles are so different. I also did not know that there were so many other Cubaney products. I would love to try the others, maybe I just don't care for the 12.gzzg

I knew the minute I tried Vizcaya and Atlantico they were from Oliver and Oliver. Both blends are kindred cousins to Cubaney with medium to heavy body, sweet front end, full flavor and spicy finish. The oldest ones are heavenly. Even the 3 year white has some lovely spicy tones and a bit of body.

Man I never realized the DR had so many sippers. Im versed in Brugal and Barcelo imperial but the rest are still a mystery to me. The opthimus and cubaney's sound interesting to me and hopefully I come across them in my travels.

I've had all of them and I think they are good...maybe a bit on the pricey side for what you get. My distributor gave me a close-out on it a few years ago and we sold it based on a low price. Worth a try.

Just got back from the dr and picked up a bottle of the cubaney 25 yr. It is a very nice solera for sipping, but if you dont like em sweet it might not be for you. For me it hits the spot!
