Is this a rum from Brazil or a Cachaca? Also any input on quality?

It's rum (as far as I can tell), although I never did hear back from Edward on that as someone had suggested it was a *cachasa* & aged *rum* blend.
I think it is damn good, personally!

As long as it is good, it matters not what to call it. Thanks for the input.

Oronoco is RUM. It is made from a combination of aged Venezuelan rum, which gives it the vanilla flavor, and highly distilled sugar cane spirit from Brazil. In Brazil, if a spirit is made from molasses it is called rum. By law, in Brazil cachaзa must be distilled to between 38 and 48% alcohol by volume so Oronoco wouldn't be considered cachaзa on two counts. Unlike some other spirits which claim to be made from sugar cane juice, Oronoco doesn't have a sharp finish but rather a smooth vanilla finish.

This sounds like one I will certainly enjoy as I never had a Venezuelian rum I didn't like. Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Is there another out there with a similar name, and a completely different bottle? Maybe it was wrapped in straw or something... There's a local store which has this stuff, not the pretty bottle in the JPG above...

You might be thinking of Ocumare rum from Venezuela. I have a bottle, but have not tasted it yet. :o

I am currently on my 2nd bottle of this one. I really like it. I did a taste test with a few friends with several Venezulan rums (Santa Theresa Solera, Pampero, Diplomatic, Santa Theresa Grand Reserve and Ocumare). 4 out of the 5 picked the Ocumare as their favorite. I woul dnot go as far as to say that it is better than the Solera but for the price it is an excellent bargain.

I purchased a bottle of the Oronoco and was not disappointed. Very smooth with a nice vanilla finish. This will not be my last bottle of this. I am putting it on my top 10 list, at least for now.

Glad you like it.
I've gotten to the point that I feel like some people find it so good that they don't like it.
They seem incapable of accepting the fact that it's white but fairly flavorful. I get comments like: "Is it a pre-mixed cocktail concoction etc."

I happened upon a bottle of Oronoco, and had to pick it up since it was discussed here. This is a very good rum. Smooth, with a lot of Vanilla and brown sugar flavors, and the vanilla finish. Happy to have it on the shelf!

Yes Hank, I too am please to have discovered this rum for myself. I was a little hesitate since I usually prefer a darker rum and with the light color I was skeptical. Thankfully there was this forum to get input from others and I was convinced to give it a go. Cheers.

anyone know if i can get it anywhere in europe. paul or ian if you read it,Btmup.gifBtmup.gif i need some of your knowledge on this one guys. thanks
This is a great white rum. The vanilla is very noticeable but not overbearing.
From what I've read the mix of South American and Brazilian sugar cane rums are blended and put into Brazilian Amendoin casks for finishing.

All for the Oronoco - one of my new favorites. Best white sipping rum I have tried so far. My wife has become very fond of it - perhaps a little too fond - but that is another story…:)
And my neighborhood liquor store stocks it!

I find Oronoco costs way too much for way too little experience. It's pleasant, light, and crisp, an easy sipper that's just too easy, not really memorable or challenging. The price in my mind is all about the bottle. If it sold for say fifteen or sixteen dollars, I'd like it more.
