What are some of the cheaper rums you have been surprised by?

Some of mine are:
Palo Viejo ($8)...I found this rum to be as smooth as Pyrat XO but with a lighter orange taste...I was quite surprised by this one.

Ron Ocumare ($11)...this very comparable to some of the other more well know rums from venezuela...I did a blind taste testing with a few of my friends and 3 out of 4 prefered this to Santa Teresa 1786 and Ron Pompero...I would not go as far as they did saying it was better but it certainly held it's own

Ron Abuelo Anejo $12, and One Barrel from Belize $13 would make the list.
Can I assume by "sleeper", you also mean inexpensive?

I actually don't know the price, but I was completely surprised by Khukri XXX from Nepal. It is fantastic, and damn close to the Ron Zacapa 23 and Zaya.

Another surprise was Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Maybe I just wasn't expecting it... It's in my top ten now.

In the UK Doorly's XO is a real find as it can be found for less than Ј20 a bottle:)

Another inexpesive rum that I was surprised by was Cohette Gold rum from Panama. This is one realy smooth sipping rum. The best part it runs about $10.

I was surprised by was Cohette Gold rum from Panama.

A few years ago I was introduced to a Cohette rum but I recall it being from Costa Rico instead of Panama.

Wonder if they recently moved production of if. The bottle I have says product of Panama. I've been wanting to try a Costa Rican rum...trying to locate an online source of Centario XX that will ship to DE. Seems like only NY and NJ stores will ship spirits to DE.

I'll throw in another nod to Ron Abuelo Anejo, at $12 it not a great rum but value wise it was very good for the price.

Also the Ron Centenario Anejo at $15 is good but I will usually spend the extra $5 to get the Commertivo Reserva.

I also like the Gosling Gold rum for about $13 bucks...has a crisp flavor with hints of fruit and mellow caramel flavors.
