Tuthilltown Spirits is selling some used charred oak barrels that have been used for aging their whiskey. Here's a link to some 3 gallon barrels (http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/TuthilltownSpirits/-strse-16/Whiskey-Cured-Barrel,-3/Detail.bok).

I don't know how many they have but at $76 a barrel they're a deal for someone who wants to age some of their own rum blend. It takes just under a case and a half of 750ml bottles to fill one of these barrels. Now's your chance if you've been drooling for a small barrel.

I'm working on some small barrels embossed with the Ministry of Rum logo on the head, but these looked like a deal if you're looking for a slightly bigger barrel.

There are two problems with barrels for home use. The losses and the aggressive oak flavor that comes from a high surface to volume ratio.

Unless you're drinking a lot of rum, or have a lot of friends that will help you drink it, you'll soon have rum with just too much oak flavor.
