For those readers in the USA, MexCor (http://www.mexcor.com/mexcor_distributors/us_distributors.htm) is the Importer for Mocambo in the USA. It is owned by family members of Licores Veracruz who produce Mocambo and a large array of other spirits. It looks like they are now distributed in 17 States. I found a bottle on a recent trip to Texas priced at $US39. Wonderful stuff!

i've a couple of bottles... We sell it at Hi Time ($31.99) (http://www.hitimewine.net/istar.asp?a=6&id=166509!2838), i've been looking for a write up i already did to revise it/compare notes/ before and after-- but i guess i'l go on memory and post one later with a fresh glass in hand.
From memory this is delicious rum...

I have a bottle I bought on a trip to Play del Carmen earlier this year. It was around $20USD there. I sampled it in the store and loved it. I haven't opened the bottle I have yet.

In my opinion the Mocambo 20 is unique! I've never tasted any other rum like it.
It is a super sipping rum but with a peculiar oaky finish that is almost cognac- or scotch-like.
I picked up two bottles for USD20 each in Mexico last year, but I'd be reluctant to drop the GBP45 it costs here in the UK. Bear in mind also it's only 50 cl, so you're getting even less for your money than you would normally.

The bottling imported into the USA is 750ml.

My first try was a bottle that someone here left at the Volcano Room in Chicago, and I absolutely loved it, but Tom only thought it was ok.
The bottle we bought has a distinct moldy wood flavor to it.
I don't know if my palate was just burned out when I tried it (I was started with some clear rum that was not what I ordered) or if it was just a difference because of the single barrel bottling.
