Hi, I am very new to this forum and actually, just as new to Rum!
I have joined this forum to see if a dillema can be solved
Let me explain....
My son is getting married in 2 weeks, & the in-law and I would like to be good hosts at the Wedding dinner. We decided to take some excellent drinks around to the guests as we say hello to each one.
The in-law suggested choosing a fine malt whiskey (we are from UK, so we have a great choice over here).
I had read an article that Rum, when produced & matured well is as good as a fine Whisky or Cognac.
The Dillema?
well....I went to a fine emporium today with a great choice of Rum & after a few tastings chose XM Royal Gold 10 Year Old from Guyana. BEAUTIFUL!!
The Dillema?
Both families (and most guests) are Orthodox Jews, and keep Kosher. so knowing the ingredients of this fine fine drink are vital.
The mollases/sugar can etc. are no problem
Are any additives permitted in this type of Rum ?
I can then check to see if they are problem with regards Kosher laws
PLEASE HELP ME FIND TURN MY GUESTS INTO RUM LOVERS!!!!

Welcome to the forums. You probably already know what I'm going to write but I'll repeat it for others in your position.

Stick with something that has the OU mark on the label. There are only a couple of rums that I know of that have that mark but I wouldn't recommend them to be served at a wedding unless the guests are familiar with them.

Stick with whisky, there's plenty of it in the UK. Find one that those that keep Kosher know and like. Weddings are not the time to test new ground with the in-laws. I can hear the rumblings even before the bottle is open. How can this man expect us to drink this stuff, especially in public, when he knows we're Kosher?
