I tried to figure out how to post this as a poll. No luck.
Do you prefer neat or mixed?

When you make a New Thread, down at the very bottom of the page is a checkbox titled "Yes, post a poll with this thread" and then a box to enter the number of poll options - 2 for "neat" or "mixed" of course.
Then you'll be brought to a page where you can fill in the options, make it private or public (so everyone can see who voted for what). Be warned that you have a limited amount of time to fill out all the options - like 5 minutes - so a 100-option poll is not recommended.
For me, neat about 95% of the time, though I have been trying to get into cocktails more.
I'm a cocktail person...comes from spending a number of years on the road in random cities with salespeople, sitting in bars where you couldn't guarantee sip-worthy liquor of all appropriate kinds.
I've only come around to drinking rums neat or with just rocks in the past few years (started with a bottle of Admiral Rodney and it was all downhill from there).

When I'm at a bar I usually drink cocktails. The rest of the time I drink things neat - I consider a little water or ice, neat.
Let me think about the poll question. My first thought is that the poll would have to be linked to a particular spirit. I'm working on the concept of allowing members or senior members vote on things like this and post reviews in the rum section of this website. Nothing that couldn't be done with another 100 spare hours of coding.

My preference has been neat for the last couple of decades.
But my head got turned around a bit by the quality of some of the mixed drinks at Tales of the Cocktail. I've ordered more mixed drinks since that event than I did in the previous several years.
But I still must say mostly neat.

I drink about 2/3 cocktails and 1/3 neat.
The Ti punch is almost neat except for the fresh lime, or?

For me, neat is the first choice, or with some rums a small amount of ice.
I also enjoy some basic cocktails, and I am trying to try different cocktails.
In a bar, it all depends on whats available, the time of day, and the amount of food cosumed, before or after a meal. The Ti Punch is almost neat, but I guess is considered in the cocktail category. I drink many of these.

The ti punch is definitely a cocktail since sugar cane syrup and even a little lime are mixers.

I drink cocktails about a quarter of the time and the rest neat - maybe with a side order of lager :)

It all depends on several factors - time of day, where I am, what Im doing, am I eating before, during, after, not at all?
I really love and prefer alot of my rums neat, however almost all have mixability and make a can make a killer cocktail

Mixed about 80% of the time.
I do enjoy Finer Darker Rums neat.
So Mixed is my 2cents!

I probably consume 75% of my rum neat. The other 25% would be in cocktails around the pool.

I would say 95% of the time neat. I do enjoy a refreshing mixed drink on a hot summer day.

My favorite way to drink rum is a little sip of many different brands, so neat is the answer. (is right out of the bottle considered neat?) When I'm settled in to drinking one brand, it's usually on the rocks. When friends come over, it's often cocktails, unless I'm making a point of getting them to taste some rum samples.
