I just learned from my Gosling's rep that Gosling's is done with Barritt's, due to certain issues (he couldn't elaborate).
Gosling's is now producing their own Ginger Beer, supposedly from the same recipe as Barritt's.
I have several cases of Barritt's in stock, so this will be interesting to see if their claim holds up.
Personally, I prefer Regatta Ginger Beer (also from Bermuda) in cans, as it is made from cane sugar, not high fructose corn syrup like the Barritt's.

If Goslings is doing both Rum and G.Beer....I wonder if a premixed is in the pipeline?

Gosling rolled out the new Ginger Beer in association with Polar Beverages of Massachusetts, USA back in May of this year.
So they are not producing the Ginger Beer, at least for the USA market.
Their rum production remains separate.
I see nothing in the pipeline to indicate a RTD..Thank God.

This is interesting info. I would love to taste the new Gosling's ginger beer. Barrit's is very sweet, but it does make the classic Dark 'n' Stormy. Regatta is another I hope to taste at some time.

It is my # 1 occupational hazard I'm afraid...Long gone are the days of high speed chases and back alley dealings. Sigh.

This is a really great read about Goslings, with a large emphasis on the Dark and Stormy: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tony-sachs/it-was-a-dark-n-stormy-ni_b_216703.html

Alas, I just tried Gosling's new ginger beer today. Very candied, with not nearly the bite that I would have liked. I don't know how it will fare, but I'll stick with Regatta and/or Barritts.
Anyone know what happened with Goslings and Barritts?
P.S. I should mention that I didn't actually have it in a Dark 'n Stormy; I had it straight. I just can't imagine it improving mixed.

Unfortuantly, the recipe is NOT the same... at least not according the the listed ingredents. It just wasn't the same.... :(. Too bad..sounds like some egos got in the way of tradition.
Guess I won't sell my Mount Gay stock quite yet !

Barritt's is now being produced in the Chicago with all the natural ingredients being shipped from Bermuda. There was a slight change in the formula, Barritt's now uses pure sugar cane, whereas before it used high fructose corn syrup. The flavor profile is the same, just slightly sweeter and less syrupy.
I did a side-by-side with both ginger beers yesterday and found the Gosling's to be lighter and more refreshing, though it also tasted closer to ginger ale and did not have the spiciness ginger beer should have.
Still a Barritt's fan!

For the Dark and Stormy, I've seen varied recipes all the way from ---
2 oz Black Seal with 1 oz ginger beer
To: Single shot Black Seal in a tall glass, fill the glass up with ginger beer (which I tried and didn't really like)
I love Black Seal -- it is my favorite rum served over ice with a splash of coconut water. But I'm not sure how to make a correct D&S.
How do you folks make yours best?

Since Gosling's has the trademark on the "Dark 'n Stormy" (R) cocktail, here is their official recipe:
http://www.goslingsrum.com/details.asp?RecipeID=192
Ingredients
2 oz Gosling's Black Seal Rum
Gosling's Stormy Ginger Beer
Method
In a tall glass filled with ice add 2 oz Gosling's Black Seal Rum and top with Gosling's Stormy Ginger Beer. Garnish with lemon or lime wedge (optional).
Gosling's Black Seal Rum's "Signature Drink".

A Rum Highball, though which predates the very cool named D&S by A VERY LONG TIME. . . looks like this:
Build, fill glass with ice
1 1/2 oz rum
Fill with ginger beer
Add Citrus wedge, or twist
Serve in a highball glass
i have no problem with using Goslings, i actually like it in my RUM HIGHBALL (or Hiball...) i just think that it is stupid and lame to place these kind of legal barriers up on something..
Whatever, my opinion... i don't drink Dark n' Stormy's-- i'll have a Rum Highball!
