Has anyone had a chance to try it? It seems like a brand new addition to the portfolio.
I enjoy the 4yr white and consider it one of the better values in a white mixing rum.
Never heard of the FDC product.
I may be mistaken but I didn't think a rum could be aged for 7 years and still be classified as 'white rum'. The long aging would have given it an amber like hue.

Isn't the Flor de Caña 4 Year Old White simply the filtered version of the 4 Year Old Gold?
Filtration can remove color, which gives us the aged whites from El Dorado, Diplomático, etc., if I'm not mistaken.

Correct! glass.gif
There are some silver rums which I doubt that there is any aging involved. But, most are as Michael pointed out.

For what it's worth, here's where I saw it mentioned: http://amuddledthought.com/2009/05/19/have-some-fun-with-flor-de-cana/

But, in the end...you are correct about THIS 7 year old rum. It is a dark rum. Must be a misprint or mistake in the recipe. HMMR

Looks like a mistake - if you look in the article, it does say 7 year old in the text at the top, but then the recipes that call for white say 4 year old...

Okay guys, I'm not crazy! If you go to Flor de Cana's website (http://www.flordecana.com)--which, incidentally, is not the best ever--and click on product range, then place your mouse arrow over the small bottle image in the lower right hand corner (but don't click!), every bottle is titled EXCEPT the white rum with a 7 on the bottle between the Black Label 5yr and the Centenario 12yr.

With reference to the Flor de Caña product range on their website, the bottle currently under view has no title and appears white in the small bottle array in the lower right corner. If you try viewing a product other than the 7 Year Old, say the 5 Year Old Gold, then the title will appear under the 7 Year Old, which will be suitably dark again, while the 5 Year Old will now appear to be a white and have no title.
Chalk it up to poor web programming/debugging.

Yup, again, Michael. cheers.gif
I have all of the product range setting on a shelf right in front of me. Only one white/light/ silver, the 4 year White. It was probably the 4 year Gold before filtering.

That web page does have two 4 Year Old rums I have never seen rumdog, a "Limon" and an "Extra Lite" white.

I got the Limon on closeout at HiTime. It has an authentic lime taste, not overpowering. I think it was $5 a bottle. The Extra Lite is a watered down (35%) version of the Extra Dry. I bought two bottles in Nicaragua and brought them back. No difference to my taste buds from the X dry, though.

I have the whole range as well, 4 white, 4 light, 4 gold, 5 black label (probably going away), 7 anejo, 12 centenario, 21st Century, and 18. There is no 7 year old white, but it's a very intriguing idea. Flor De Caсa is said to have the largest stores of aged rum in the Caribbean region and they could certainly filter some color out of a 7 and bottle it for the right price, if the demand was there.
Since Diplomatico is enjoying rave reviews for the Rum Blanco aged white, it may cause a spark in old white rums, a category that really never existed before now.

+ 1 for the 4 year old Extra Light. One day I'll grow up and be just like RobertBurr! For now I'm a couple of items short of "the entire line".cheers.gif
I suspect the mention of a 7 year white was a typo or a limited presentation I haven't seen the likes of [yet].
