I'd bought some Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum last week as it was the only one on the shelf of the shop I hadn't tried. Overall, I wasn't that impressed with it. However, I'd been drinking navy rum the other night and followed it with some of the Captain Morgan. It tasted amazing after that; like a completely different drink. Anyone else got any good recommendations for drinking rum in a certain order to obtain a better taste?

Could it simply be that you drank, say...6-10 navy rums prior to the Cpt. Morgan?
That is the only plausible conclusion I can arrive at, that ends with Cpt. Morgan and amazing.

The only order that I ever think of is the order that I placed with the bartender.
Seriously, if you start out with one of the light sweeter rums, and then go to your heavier rums you will notice that the heavier rums flavors seem to be enhanced. This is just me, but i think i have read other posts to that effect.
I do you a great Captain Morgan rum drink recipe.
One can Ginger beer
One ounce of Cane syrup
One ounce Zaya, or Zacapa
Just look at the Captain Morgan bottle
Enjoy

Ellis, that's a miserable recipe. It can be greatly improved by replacing looking at the bottle of the Captain with stating, "I am ashamed to admit there was once Captain Morgan's in this house."

I'd say light on the rum. Nothing accompanies a can of Barret's like eight shots of Gosling's... =) Cheers. - R

OK,..... maybe I did go a bit high on the ginger, come to think of it, I usually get two drinks from one can (that is if I am making them for friends). I rarely measure when I am making them for me. Still, it's better than saying Captain is Amazing.laughing.gif It's ok if it is a big party and it is either Captain or Bacardi white. By the way, the Captain 73% is pretty good in a punch. Gives a pretty good kick. I have an old bottle of Appleton 151 proof, but I haven't had anj occasion to open it yet.

Sorry Gmarket, nobody has tried to answer your question seriously...
If I don't care for a rum (or other spirit) I don't bother trying to find a way to make it more palatable--I just give it away. You seem to have found a way to "enjoy" Cpt. Morgan...finish the bottle, lesson learned!! oops.gif
