www.rumpundit.net has a news story about a Hong Kong bar that has been awarded the world record for the most runs stocked with *a pathetic* 102 rums. As we give it all away free we won't be bothering the Guinness team but Floridita, Cottons and a lengthy list of others might wanna play the Chinese off the park...

Hahahahahaha! Hahahahaha! Hah... Oh dear. HMMR
How embarassed would the Guinnes people be if that actually ended up in the Guinnes book of World Records and then it turns out this relatively unknown small village somewhere on a remote island called London has tons of bars with more rum than 102.

In the past couple of years I've been contacted by Hong Kong purchasing agents to procure as many rums as possible for inclusion in what was going to be the world's best rum bar. As even a casual reader of this site knows, it takes more than a large number of rums to make a rum bar. I'm surprised the Guinness agent would travel all the way to Hong Kong to document a rum bar when it could have been done with a short cab ride. But part of the record is applying for it, something no one else has done that.

True, I wouldn't hesitate to contact them if I was selling rum

I actually contacted Guinness earlier this year and started on the process of registering the "World's Largest Scorpion Bowl" as we were preparing to create a massive kiddie-pool sized scorpion bowl with a giant propane-fueled volcano center. I filled out all the paper work, descriped the whole project, and more- it was a fair bit of effort. After about 6 weeks, the Guinness people came back and decided that it fell under the category of "largest cocktail", which (revoltingly) is held by a tanker truck sized Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville margarita. So not having 26,000 gallons of white rum to spare, I conceded defeat.
I never thought to submit for rum bar, although I know I do not have the most (but I do have more than 102!)
