i've accquired some rum

for my 21st birthday i got a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centanario and i cant decide on how to enjoy it. any thoughts? ideas?

seeing as it is my birthday today, does anyone have any good birthday ideas? my original plan which involved a limo and friends has fallen through.

Yes. Get a short, wide glass like a double old fashioned. Pour in a couple ounces. Nothing else - no ice, no lime, no water. Enjoy.

You could add some ice, but it's worth trying some all on it's own. There's really no need for water or lime with this rum.


However, drink what you like so long as you like what you drink! And it's your birthday.

now that i can legally purchase my own rum, im looking forward to tasting all that the world has to offer, and on a side note, i'm even seriously considering emulating "Ed" when i retire; sailing the Caribbean and sampling the finest sounds like a nice way to spend my retirement.

if i can just keep my goals and priorities in line until then...

and that is exactly what i did.

my birthday haul was as follows (in order of best to worst IMO)
1. Ron Zacapa Centanrio 23 anos
2. Pyrate XO
3. Captain Morgans Private stock
4. Appleton Estate
5. a tiny hobo bottle of Captain Morgans tattoo as a joke from my girlfriend.

I know i know, why is Appleton Estate lower than the Capt? how can i preform such blatant blasphemy? I prefer sweeter rums, just not sugar rums like parrot bay and Bacardi Limon and so on.

Anything with the Captain's name on it has waaaaay to much vanilla for me, but I did start my journey with the Private Stock, so I guess I won't fault you for it. Was it Appleton VX or the other inexpensive one? I kept a bottle of VX in the freezer and took it out when I felt like watching Captain Ron (one of my favorite movies to watch with rum). Highly recommend to enjoy it that way.

It was the VX, not the XO. I thought the XO would be stronger in flavor so I opted for a nice mixer rum. I need to get Capt. Ron I totally forgot how awesome that movie is.
