Both really amazing. Problem is I finished the Barbancourt before I opened the El Dorado. With no side-by-side comparo. I invite your coments. The BC15 I had was the "new" style bottle and was a few dollars more per 750ml than the ED15.

What is the new style bottle? Got a pic?

I think they're two different beasts. ED is loaded with burnt caramel and dark
sweetness, heavy and viscous in the mouth. Barbencourt is drier lighter, if not a bit hotter and spicier. Two unlike rums.

I do not have a picture. By "new" bottle I mean the one labeled Estate Reserve as opposed to the Reserve de Domaine numbered bottles mentioned in similar threads. Sorry for the confusion.

I think Tiare had cocktails the included both (not together). Is one "better" or preferred, under certain circumstances - or is it simply a matter of taste. I remember thinking the Barbancourt was wow-amazing; then I tasted the ED and was thinking the same thing: Wow!

I get that "wow" thing all the time. Some many great rums, so many great moments associated with them.

i have never had the other one, but i got some of the el dorado 15 year from my grandmother on my birthday. at first i didn't like it very much. but that changed pretty quick haha. it's one of my favorite rums now. however it is a bit expensive for myself, so i normally go with sailor jerrys spiced rum

btw im also new. so i look forward to some great conversation :)

Each has a very different profile, and each one is excellent in it's own right. These are two that will always be on my shelf.drooling.gif

I had the Barbancourt and I could not wait to get home and have another sip. It's gone. Now I have the ED and it is still in the cupboard. Almost like I do not want it to be gone. I think about spooning it over vanilla icecream. Sometimes when I am reading a really good book I put it down and walk away so that it will never end - I feel that way about the ED, like it is too good to drink.
