I've just found a new company (One Natural Experience (http://www.onenaturalexperience.com/)) which is a great source for coconut water. They also have cashew juice. Ever heard of such a thing?
These natural juices come in handy five layer foil packages that keep the product fresh for months without refrigeration.
The coconut water is wonderful. Clean and slightly sweet, it tastes much better than the stuff in cans. It contains five essential electrolytes, more potassium than a banana, with no fat.
The cashew juice is light and refreshing with a flavor similar to passionfruit. It has five times the vitamin C of orange juice and no fat. Very surprising.
I'll be working up a few tropical drinks with these juices and some of my favorite rums and post the results here.

Sounds like some real good products, the cashew juice is unusual.Taste similar to passionfruit juice is not really what i would have imagined..i more would have guessed on some nutty flavor. Would be interesting to play with in Tiki drinks.

I saw this product at a co op by my house but they had Amy and Brian's coconut juice on sale which was a much better deal at 17.5 oz compared to the smaller size of the ONE. Maybe I'm missing out.

ONE is one of the two coco waters I use. It is excellent.

Robert. The "Pouch" technology has been around for a bit and seems to be a better alternative for highly perishable and delicate products, rather than canning, or bottling.
We love Cashew "butter" down here...But how the heck does one juice a Cashew?

What you think of as a cashew (or, indeed, any tree nut) is only the pit of the fruit of the cashew tree. The fruit has a mesoderm (pulp) and exoderm (skin) as well. You can juice the pulp to get cashew juice. Be careful with doing this to all nuts. Some nuts have highly toxic pulp. As I recall, walnuts are in this category.

Right you are Scribe. The Cashew indeed has a most unusual pulp and exoderm which grows apart from the nut itself...As opposed to the Almond, which is also common here.
The pulp fruit of the Cashew is known locally as "pajuil". When ripe it is quite musky and I could see this as being what Robert may have experienced as "Cashew" juice.
Interestingly, the Pulp fruit of the Cashew is not toxic, but rather the nut itself is, until it has been put through a heating process.
At least that is my understanding from my local experience.
As an aside, while Almond and Cashew Trees are abundant here, the locals eschew them as "slave" food...Harkening back to the days of the sugar plantations.

Some nuts have highly toxic pulp. As I recall, walnuts are in this category.

Maranon, as the cashew fruit is known in Costa Rica, is an unusual fruit. Its seed, the cashew nut, grows on top of it in a thick, rubbery shell. Don't try to bite open the shell; it's very bitter. Cashews must be roasted before they can be eaten; they are poisonous when raw. People in the countryside will try to sell you home-masted cashews. The ripe fruit can be eaten or made into a refresco (shakes) or fermented into wine. The dried fruit is like a cross between a prune and a fig and is sold in supermarkets. You can make a quick and elegant dessert with half a dried maranon topped with a dollop of cream cheese and a cashew.
The juice of the fruit tastes nothing like the cashew nut. Some say it tastes a bit like pineapple, to me it tastes wonderfully tropical like passionfruit, but lighter in flavor. Most importantly, it goes very well with rum!

Nice pic Robert...That is the same that we have here. When the fruit turns that rosy red/orange it's time to pick.
The aroma and flavor is more delicate than Passion fruit, but still has an exotic, musky taste and at it's best is wonderfully balanced with sweet/tart.

I ran across the ONE products yesterday at a local store and picked up some coconut water, cashew juice and coffee berry juice. After dinner I mixed a little cashew juice and Oronoco and found it to be a nice combo. I think I'll play around with that a little more over the weekend to come up with a new cocktail.

Great minds must think alike. I hadn't really read this thread before, but tonight I opened my cashew juice to have a taste and was trying to figure out what rum to use. Based on how the juice smelled, I immediately thought a nice white rum would pair well and went straight for the Oronoco. It's a shame that the little pouches are over $2 at the local market, though.
