A little help for the new guy (by the way this place is the Rum Mecca- great site). A few years ago somebody brought me a bottle of Don Lorenzo Dark from the Abacos which I really enjoyed. I went there last year and was going to get a bottle and was told that it was no longer available. The store was rather small and limited, so I wasn't sure if he was trying to get me to buy something else or was telling the truth. Can someone shed a little light on this? By the way I went for the 8 year old Barbancourt which I thought was a pretty fine substitute. Thanks

Welcome to the rum forums. Don Lorenzo is no longer being made so you weren't getting a line from the store owner. That bottle of Barbancourt you found is one of the favorites among members here at the Ministry of Rum.

Now I won't be able to think about much besides sailing in the Abacos for the rest of the day. It was one of my favorite places in the Bahamas.

I left the bahamas about one month ago and the Don Lorenzo bottles on the shelfs got less and less. The "Dark Reserve" is one of the few bahamian rums I realy enjoyed. The other was the 7 year old "Yer Ho" by Ole Nassau wich is also not been made any more...

It's such a great pety, but most of the tourist seem to buy more of that flavoured stuff...

So I hope to be able to find some old bottles on in the back of some dusty shelf when i'll be back in the islands in august...

Given current American English vernacular I think that label would have not passed approval if they had tried to export it to the USA.
