Hi there all - I wondered if anyone could help me find an English Rum? - is there such a thing?

Welcome to the forums. I'm not aware of any rums presently being made in England though there are a few bottled and marketed by English companies.

A women i work with just went back home to the UK for a visit and brought me back a bottle of Lamb's Navy Rum. As Ed says, it was not produced there, but it was bottled there from rums of Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, and Guyana. It is dark (in the Navy Rum tradition) and it is pretty good neat.
I'd be curious what our UK MOR colleagues have to say about it, or what others they have/like

Sold all over the place in the UK, Lamb's is seen as a good domestic rum that is usually mixed and seldom drunk neat. It is sold alongside Captain Morgan etc alongside Bacardi in many outlets but, thank heavens, many of them are now selling more variety of rums, HC, Pampero etc.

You can find other Rums bottled in England, almost all of them from Guyana, Jamaica or Trinidad casks.
One of the most famous is Bristol Spirits, from Gloucestershire. They have a great selection Jamaican (Long Pond) , Barbados (Rockley Still), Demerara Rums from Enmore, Port Morant, Versailles stills, but also Cuban Rum and a Nicaragua 1995.
From Scotland bottler you can find Silver Seal selections or Cadenhead's selection, both famous for single malt whisky collections.

Just got a bottle of Wood's Old Navy Demerara Rum brought back for me from the UK from a woman I work with.
Says it's traditional pot stilled and is bottled at 114 proof (57%)
Anybody tried this? I have not opened it yet, but it looks intriguing!

Hey Krustykrab, have you opened that bottle of Woods yet? One of my local supermarkets sells it but so far I've not been tempted. What are your thoughts?

We really enjoy the Woods 100 we picked up in London. A classic Navy style rich, dark rum with lots of flavor and a good kick.

I bought a bottle while I was in the UK aswell, but haven't had the chance to crack it open yet. I have obtained too many other rums lately. I mailed it back with five other bottles, unfortunately the OVD didn't survive the journey, they also got mis-delivered to Nassau, Bahamas and Paris, France and half ended up arriving by courier even though I sent them Royal Mail.g()fy
You can find both Lamb's and Wood's on the cheap at most supermarkets in the UK. I find both to be nice for mixing drinks, but not of the premium variety. Lamb's has a cool 5 sided bottle, designed to not roll around while on a boat.

Hello Hannah,
there are also Sea Lord with 37,5 Vol%, British Navy Pusserґs Rum with 47,75 Vol%. The Sea Lord I have not opened it yet. The Pussers is an old traditionell rum, dry but with a lot of taste. Perfect for mixing and make a "Grog".
Bristol Rumґs are good, bottled in England. Also the Cadenheadґs Rum. Espacally the Demerara and Guyana rum are very typical "british". They are often stored and matured in Scotland for years. And you find there the "original" style of the destilleries, like Port Morand, Enmore, Uitvluight... And on both, the destilling art is mentioned. Enjoy it! I do.
Murray MacDavid bottle sometimes rum too. But they work often with special winecask. I dont know if you like it.
Did you ever try the Sea Winde? It is a special blending in english style. Whisky lovers like it as well.
Best regards from the winterly cold Berlin

You'll find it will be very similar to the Lamb's. We have Woods here in Canada (although not the 114 proof) and I found it to be good mixed just like Lamb's.

Alnwick Rum is supposed to be good, though I haven't tried this yet.
And down in Cornwall, there's Walter Hicks 125 Navy Rum - 71.4%.

I will have to check the label again when I get home but I believe the London dock is made and bottled in London from demerara squeezins from Guyana. Its a great flavourful rum that is the same price as plain old bacardi and captain, It is great as a stiff drink too.
